Abstract

The word Tahum is derived from Arabic language, mainly referred as superstition, illusionist, skepticism, conjecture, suspicion, and counterintuitive talk. Sometimes Tahum is taken as belief, however according to psychologists when something is strongly insisted and that this thing is false, called as belief. According to the law of medicine, something which has no natural existence and due to this false concept memory and senses are affected is called superstition or Tahum. The roots of superstition lied in Greece mythology, which is actually a combination of two beliefs of the Greeks. According to first belief, iron keep off evil forces, and second belief is if iron is molded in the shape of the Moon, it brings happiness and good luck to community. Before the advent of Islam, the Arabs were also victim of superstitions and belief in various misconceptions. All these false and baseless things had been crafted in their hearts and minds. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ emphasized Tawheed after the Prophethood. He removed those wrong beliefs and endorse on worship of one Allah. Many verses of the Holy Quran and Hadith of the Prophet proved that there is no such thing like superstitions and these misconceptions have no influence on human life. Indeed, they are just a collection of human imaginations and devil’s whispers. In a nutshell, superstition has no connections with Islam and all these superstitions build up due to lack of faith and distance from Islamic teachings. The society can get rid of these issues by following the true Spirit of Islam.
