Abstract

Poetry anthologies and its collections, such as Al-Asma'iyat, (الأصمعيّات) Al-Mufaddaliyyat, (المفضّليّات) and ancient Hamasat, (الحماسات القديمة) are important sources and references for missing words and its origins. Among these collections, the Al-Hamasah by Abu Tammam holds a special place, having received significant attention from commentators. It is one of the most prominent poetry collections, widely recognized and well-known. Its importance and value are further enhanced by the fact that it contains numerous significant Arabic linguistic evidences. Therefore, I have decided to study the scattered missing words found in, the Al-Hamasah by Abu Tammam from the beginning of the book to the end of the section of Al-Merathi (elegies) in the published explanations until the end of the fifth century AH. The research has collected the irrevocable missing words contained in the explanations of poetry, whether they are in the poetry of the poet, or in the explanation of the commentator, or in his evidence. This study explores the concept of Fawa’it (الفوائت) its importance, its sources, and its value, and it compiles a number of missing words in the lexicons and semantics.
