Modern technology and ethical, social challenges in the light of Islamic teachings

Abstract

In the present era, modern technology has astonishingly made human life more convenient, faster, and interconnected. Advanced tools such as computers, the internet, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and communication media have transformed the world into a global village. While this technology has brought countless benefits to humanity, it has also given rise to numerous ethical, social, and spiritual challenges that impact society, individuals, values, and faith.

In this research paper, we will examine the various types of modern technology, such as information technology, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and military and educational technology. Alongside, we will discuss the social issues arising from these advancements—such as obscenity, unemployment, individualism, mental stress, and moral decline—from an Islamic perspective. By presenting solutions to these challenges in the light of the Qur'an and Sunnah, this paper will clarify how Islamic teachings enable the positive use of technology and protect humanity from its negative effects.

This study will serve as a guide for scholars, students, researchers, and every member of society on how to use modern science and technology within the boundaries of Shariah, aiming to create a balanced, ethical, and God-conscious society.
